If you'd like to see how it was to play at Lampenhain on 31st January 2002, then have a look at: http://www.wolfgang-wonde.de/Welcome.htm and go to JWH in the 'Looking Back' section. RSPCJWH sends love and best wishes to Wolfgang Wonde.

26 September 2002
Please note that, due to a double booking by The Canal Street Tavern, JWH's gig in Dayton, OH has changed to Sunday Oct 27th from Friday. That friday will be filled in somewhere and we will let you know about that as soon as we do.

23 September 2002
The set list for the gig at The Hawkins Amphitheater will probably always be lost to us. JWH assures us that he played, amongst others: Merry-Go-Round, I Should Have Stopped, Darwin, Ordinary Weekend, Sluts, Our Lady of The Highways, Humble Bee, I Try, Love's Reign Of Terror and For An Actress. Afterwards, there was also a great set by Loudon Wainwright III - so it was value for money all round. Knowing that JWH was a reverend, LWIII said on stage: "Well, I'm drinking wine.... anybody got any wafers?... we've got a reverend here.... we could have a WILD FOLK COMMUNION!"

The new Alison Moorer album is called Miss Fortune. (No relation.)

There is a song on the new Beck album called Already Dead. There is a song on JWH's unreleased record, The Man With No Shadow, called Already Dead. (Also no relation.)

21 September 2002
The following dates have been added to the first part of the tour:

OCT
Tue 15: Room 4, Carrboro, NC
Sat 19: Little Brothers, Columbus, OH

And the West Coast is also now taking shape:

NOV
Wed 6: Pete's, Yakima, WA
Thur 7: Tractor Tavern, Seattle, WA
Fri 8: The Fez, Portland, OR
Tue 12: Sweetwater, Mill Valley, CA

Obviously there are more CA dates to be added, and then JWH is thinking of taking a trip through AZ, NM and TX on his way back to the East Coast. For the entire list of dates so far please see the "LIVE" page.

Good reviews for Swings and Roundabouts keep pouring in, from the most important reviewer: you, the listener. Here at the RSPCJWH, we're glad you're enjoying it so much. JWH is also personally happy that you'll know some of these songs when the tour comes to your town.

14 September 2002
D4: Swings and Roundabouts is now out and entering homes around America. The first two huge batches of CDs went out this week from the RSPCJWH nerve centre. And the first review of the album came back promptly: "Dynablob 4 is terrific. I was surprised to receive it as quickly as I did.... my favorite album since New Deal" said RJ. We, at RSPCJWH, promise that this came from a genuine email. Since the album will never be reviewed in magazines, or probably sold in stores, these are the only reviews that matter. So, if you'd like a copy of Swings and Roundabouts, let us know.

10 September 2002
Dynablob 4 is out. Get it while it's hot!

3 September 2002
Bumbershoot was a terrific success. Though we don't have a set-list, JWH played alone, and with CvS and with The Minstrel in the Galleries, for just over an hour and a half. JWH described it as one of the best gigs of all. The Minstrel in the Galleries played:
The Ballad Of Maria Marten
Candee-i-o
The Famous Flower Of Serving Men.
In JWH's own set, he sang Sluts, It Stays, Ordinary Weekend, Goth Girl, For An Actress, I Should Have Stopped, Merry-Go-Round, amongst others. With CvS, he performed:
Still Photo, Our Lady Of The Highways, Window Seat and Humble Bee.
If we receive a full set-list, we'll post it.
Now, we look forward to the tour (apart from that one gig in Reno.)

29 August 2002
On Friday morning (tomorrow? today!) at 7.30am, KMTT in Seattle ('The Mountain') will broadcast an interview and two live songs by JWH, taped in advance. The songs are from one each of the new records. For An Actress from Swings and Roundabouts and It Stays from The Man With No Shadow.

JWH and David Lewis were in the studio at Egg in Seattle over the last two days, along with Kurt Bloch and Chris von Sneidern. They recorded five songs for David's next record including Hidden Heart and Something Real.

At JWH's Bumbershoot gig on sunday at 8.30pm in Seattle, JWH will play alone and with Chris von Sneidern. The last portion of the show will feature a historic reunion (if they ever broke up) performance by The Minstrel in the Galleries. See elsewhere on wesweb for details of what, if you're at Bumbershoot, you might expect to see. We guarantee solid Mediaeval entertainment.

24 August 2002
One more important date added to the long tour:

26th Oct: Birdy's, Indianapolis, IN

A very rare trip to Indiana! There will also be an unexpectedly soon date in Reno, NV, not attached to the rest of the tour. We have only just looked at the web page, but this place looks beautiful for anyone who fancies a weekend in Reno:

21st September: Hawkins Amphitheater, Reno, NV (w. Loudon Wainwright III - JWH plays a 75 min. set, first.)

In further writing news. JWH has just written an article for the first issue of The Ukulele Occasional. This piece, called New York Girls, is an attempt to discover how it is that Peter Sellers, the comedian and actor, happened to end up playing the uke on a song on a Steeleye Span album in the mid 70s. For all interested in delving further into this fascinating phenomenon, The Ukulele Occasional is available at www.ukemag.com and for $6.99 (inc. shipping) from P.O. Box 14013, Seattle, WA 98114. It's 128 pages and 6" x 9".

JWH and David Lewis are going into the studio in Seattle next week, in the company of Chris von Sneidern and Kurt Bloch, to start recording on David's third record.

There is a fascinating reunion planned for JWH's Bumbershoot performance in Seattle this year on Sunday Sept 1st.

4 August 2002
We are starting to announce the dates for the Oct/Nov 2002 tour on the 'Live' page on this very web site. We won't send out an email about them until we have a whole string of them - but feel free to check out the live page as often as possible as of today. Note that there is only ONE show at The Tin Angel in Philadelphia, so worth getting tickets early for this.

Speaking of email, site maintainter Rose recently had a bit of an email meltdown -- so if you've sent her any email and haven't received a response, kindly re-mail her at rose@wesweb.net. Thanks!

Go and see this show if it has yet to pass through your town.

We have located the Passim setlist from last Saturday, thanks to Paul. We offer it here because it must qualify as one of the longest setlists ever - with many new songs, including the debut of Don't Rain On Me Today.

31 July 2002
JWH played three gigs this weekend. We provided the Manchester set list below -- the Cambridge set list (which was 22 songs long) got lost somewhere, and no-one remembered to write one down for Southpaw, a charming new venue in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The encores in Brooklyn, performed with Scott McOi and John 'Ramos' Ramberg were: Our Lady of The Highways, Tell It To The Raven (by Jimmy Silva), Twilight Distillery (by Scott McOi) and People Love to Watch You Die. He also joined McOi in his set for Boeing Spacearium and The Girl I Never Met. JWH will certainly play here again before too long.

JWH turned up and played with The Minus Five at their Knitting Factory show on Monday 29th July. Someone smart wrote in to tell us --- "JWH and the Minus 5 did a wicked version of Van Morrison's 'And it Stoned Me' last night at Knitting Factory. They brought JWH up to sing it with Scott. Awesome!!! They are there again tonight. will we see JWH again????" JWH sang The Girl I Never Met, Boeing Spacearium and a verse of And It Stoned Me. Also, Scott and JWH took it upon themselves to sing rival versions of "Be Kind To Your Web-footed Friends". Doubtless there will be more fun at the second show on Tuesday.

And in further JWH /Minus Five news, they can be heard together on This Is Where I Belong: Songs of Ray Davies & The Kinks (Rykodisc). JWH is the extra voice singing the verses on The Five's version of Get Back In Line. This song was recorded in Seattle at the same time as Words Words Words, the song they recorded together for the Pete Seeger tribute on Appleseed.

D4:Swings and Roundabouts is now 'in production'. According to JWH, all recording has now finished. And the album is currently being sequenced and mastered.

29 July 2002
In this month's Marie Claire, The Man With No Shadow has been picked as one of July's "10 Best To Do" - quite an accomplishment for an album that isn't out yet and has no firm release date. (The thumbnail of the advance of the album is printed on its side so it looks as though JWH is rolling on his back.)

Swings And Roundabouts (Dynablob 4) was completed on Thursday 25th July in New York City. The album comprises 12 otherwise unrecorded songs and will be the first Dynablob of entirely new material. (The series will then revert to archiving the past.) We will let you know the track listing as soon as we're sure what it is! Swings And Roundabouts will be available to you by the middle of September.

Here is the set list for Cheney Hall, Manchester, CT (26 July):

Merry-go-round
I Should Have Stopped
The Truth
Goth Girl
Darwin
Infinite Combinations
It Stays
The People's Drug
You So&So
The Fall Of The House Of Harding
The Red Rose And The Briar
The Common Kiss
For An Actress
Little Musgrave
Save A Little Room For Me
The Devil In Me
-
Our Lady Of The Highways
I Try

7 July 2002
The first known (p)review of JWH's The Man With No Shadow is up on the net at www.melodic.de. An unusual take on JWH from the first review of the advance CD. [Melodic removed it from their website, because of the delay of the record, and they will replace it with an interview later: but you can read it here.]
This is an advance copy of the new John Wesley Harding album so I don't have any info about producers or songwriters or anything, but it's unnecessary cause you have something great to wait for. This album is a superb journey in modern rock. The production is great. The songs are great and John Wesley Harding is great. The album is filled with great tracks and there are actually no bad tracks on this album! Musically we're in the ocean of modern rock, but John has an own sense of psychadelia added which makes it ever better. Fourth out which I believe is called "Sleeper, Awake" or something is marvellous and sounds like Glen Burtnick on his way to Matchbook 20 and fifth out ("Hard") have a great guitar-driven verse and a marvellous refrain. Superlatives all over folks. Watch out for this release!!!

The last two copies of The Man With No Shadow on eBay went for insanely high prices - one was in three figures. JWH thoroughly dissuades you from giving people this kind of money for the record - even though he absolutely appreciates your urge to do so.
